Procedure----
The toe is numbed with a local anesthetic
A tourniquet is placed around the toe to prevent bleeding
The nail is cut to remove the part that's grown into the skin
The nail bed is destroyed to prevent the nail from growing back
A chemical, like phenol, is applied to the nail root to prevent regrowth
The toe is bandaged
Recovery----
You can usually go home the same day
Keep your leg raised to reduce swelling
Avoid strenuous exercise for two weeks
Keep the dressing dry
